On April 23-24, 2008 Wahana Visi Indonesia through KITA BISA Project together with Jayawijaya District AIDS Comission held Channel of Hope Workshop for Gereja Bethel Indonesia leaders in Wamena. This workshop aims to illuminate the leaders of GBI denomination to be able to address HIV and AIDS situation in their congregations.
Secondary assistant of Jayawijaya District Secretary Mr. Benyamin Arisoy, M.Si who also a secondary chief of Jayawijaya District AIDS Comission (KPAD) gave an opening speech at the first day. He addressed the importance of "giving hands" in HIV and AIDS prevention. He also announced the situation nowadays in Wamena that number of AIDS cases are still increase from 9 in 2000 to almost a 100 cases in 2006. Finally, he closed his speech by asking commitments of all all participants to work together as churches with government and NGOs in addressing this issue.
This activity attended by 13 participants and facilitated by Reynold Mandha and Benyamin Situmorang from KITA BISA Project and also Rev. Philip Goraph from Karubaga Area Development Program.
